Dow Silicones is a leading producer of silicone-based materials. They offer products such as sealants, adhesives, lubricants, and elastomers for industries like automotive, construction, electronics, and healthcare. Roomfoss Control Systems were tasked with building a motor control centre for their Secondary waste water treatment (SWWT) plant. This would need to control and monitor mixers, pumps and fans.

Task

The task was to build an intelligent Motor Control Centre that could control and monitor DOLs, VSDs and Feeders. This would also need to be able to switch automatically between 2 main incoming supplies to prevent plant down time. As the building for the new switchboard was pre existing, our solution needed to fit within the available space.

Solution

As a solution, Roomfoss designed and produced a 13 column Okken switchboard, this would include automatic changeover done using a Siemens PLC and remote HMI. The remote HMI which would also be used for manual breaker control, would be mounted away from the MTZ breakers to ensure full safety when switching under load. Across the switchboard, we included schneider’s TH110 and CL110 thermal monitoring sensors. These sensors log the temperature of the busbar joints and ambient temperature within critical cubicles. This data then fed into a HMI mounted on the switchboard that would sound warnings and alarms for over temperature alongside trending this data. The switchboard controlled 40 cubicles that included Schneider VSDs, Tesys T Units and fuse switch feeders.
